Alfonso Jaramillo

Alfonso Jaramillo has extensive experience in theoretical particle physics (PhD 1999), postdoc research in protein design at the labs of Prof. Wodak (Free University of Brussels) and Prof. Karplus (Chemistry Nobel 2013) in Strasbourg (France) and Harvard (USA). After holding a tenured lectureship position at the Ecole Polytechnique (France) in 2003, he was appointed a tenured senior scientist position at CNRS (France) in 2009, and held a research professor position there from 2015 until 2021. In 2013-2021, he was a full professor of Synthetic Biology at the University of Warwick (UK), and in 2021, he joined CSIC (i2sysbio, Spain) as Investigador Cientifico. His research focuses on the development of accelerated evolution techniques based on engineered phages for a variety of applications such as biohydrogen production, developing new antimicrobials, and engineering new living artificial intelligence through neuromorphic gene circuits in bacteria.
